Ways to Keep Your White Shirt Sparkling White

  3. When it comes to fabric that has been yellowed with time, rinse in a little vinegar and water, and hang it someplace bright and warm to dry.
  4. Pre-treat the stains on your clothes with normal soap or laundry detergent. Scrub the stain away thoroughly, before soaking in hot water.
  5. Make sure that the clothes have been completely rinsed, in a clean washing machine, so that dirt in the machine is not being transferred onto the fabric. If nothing else works, add some bleach to your load, in an appropriate amount.

How to Properly Clean Your Comforter

With the winter weather well underway, we all have had a chance this season to curl up under the covers and keep cozy. This time of the year is the time for cuddles and snuggles, and it is important to make sure that your comforter is fresh and clean. We here at Bakers Centre Laundry have a few tips on how to stay warm and tidy this winter!

  1. Determine when your comforter needs cleaning: How to clean your comforterYour comforter should be washed every 1-3 months, on the regular. You may need to wash it sooner after any illnesses in order to eliminate bacteria and keep it from spreading. If you have any allergies, it is also important to wash your comforter on a regular basis.
  2. Check for any loose thread or tears: You want to check your comforter for any loose  threads that need trimming so that they will not get caught during the washer’s spin cycle. You also want to be sure there are no holes in the comforter before washing. In the case of any small tears, it is a good idea to mend them before washing to prevent them from getting any bigger or the filling from spilling out.
  3. Read the label: Many people make the mistake of washing their comforters without carefully following the instructions on the care label. The care label is meant for you to get the most use out of the product. Most comforters can be washed at home but some may be need to be dry cleaned, so be sure to read carefully.
  4. Treat any stains: You want to treat any stains on your comforter with a store bought treatment or a homemade solution of equal parts baking soda and white vinegar. Let the solution sit on the stain for 15 minutes before washing. This will help optimize maximum freshness and cleanliness of your comforter.
  5. Washing your comforter: when you load your comforter into the washing machine, you want to be sure that it is evenly distributed and that there is enough room for your comforter to get thoroughly cleaned. If you think your washing machine at home is too small, don’t hesitate to bring it in to Bakers Centre Laundry and use one of our front-loading washing machines. Be sure to follow specific temperature and washing machine settings.
  6. Drying your comforter: When loading your comforter into the dryer, you again want to be sure that your comforter is evenly distributed and has enough room to dry. Place a pair of tennis balls into the dryer along with it to ensure fluffiness and freshness. You could also hang your comforter outside to dry in the event of warm and sunny weather. Make sure your comforter is completely dry before proceeding to use it. This could take up to a few hours.

If your comforter is not as fresh and fluffy as you like, let us clean it! Bring it to us using our 24-hour drop off service. If you’re having trouble or have any questions or concerns, please give us a call at (215) 227-1454 or contact us online.
