How to Care for Your Swimsuits

How to wash swimsuits

Time to relax and lay by the pool or go to the beach while it’s still warm! Over the summer months it’s hard to keep your swimsuits clean because they are made out of synthetic materials which love to grab, absorb and never let go of stains. Whether it’s sunscreen or stains from that summer barbecue by the pool, you’re in luck! At Bakers Centre Laundry, we have some tips and tricks to get those pesky stains out of your swimsuits.

Wash Your Swimsuit After Each Wear
Even if you don’t go in the water, it’s important to wash your swimsuit. Sunscreens especially contain a chemical that can actually breakdown the material of your swimsuit, and it can also turn your suit yellow! Washing your suit right after you wear it can prevent any stains from setting, but you need to know how to properly wash your suit!

Use the Right Detergent
If you want to get stains out of your swimsuit and see the best results, make sure you use a detergent that is designed specifically for delicate clothing. Along with detergent, you can also use vinegar due to its antibacterial properties, which will get rid of odors.

Be Sure to Hand Wash Your Suit!
It’s always best to hand wash your swimsuit. Make sure you use cold water and add one capful of detergent to the water. Let it soak for 30 minutes and then rinse your suit with cold water. Do not soak overnight. This can loosen the fibers and stretch out your swimsuit. Don’t put your swimsuit in the dryer! Since your swimsuit is made out of spandex, putting it in the dryer can weaken the elasticity of the suit.
