Getting rid of summertime stains

Summer is the prime for grilling and wine season, both of which are highly susceptible to staining your clothes. We want you to enjoy this wonderful time of the year without the worry of weather you’re going to be able to get rid of that lousy stain from your favorite shirt or dress. Our experts at Bakers Centre Laundry have compiled a short list of what to do with those annoying stains that try to ruin your fun!

Barbeque/Steak Sauce
Grilling up the most talked about steaks in your neighborhood is all fun and games until you end up wearing the sauce. Here’s how to get rid of those saucy stains:

Step 1: Scrape off any excess barbecue sauce from the fabric.

Step 2: Turn garment inside out and run the fabric under cold running water.

Step 3: Add liquid laundry detergent to the surface of the stain and let sit for 10-15 minutes then rinse well.

Step 4: Use a white cloth to sponge white vinegar onto the BBQ stain, and then rinse thoroughly.

Tip: The sooner you do this after the stain occurs, the better.

Step 5: Pretreat with a laundry stain remover and wash as normal.

Step 6: Make sure before you place the item in the dryer that the spot is completely removed to keep the stain from becoming permanent.

Step 7: If the stain is not fully removed, repeat steps 3-5.

You see someone that’s had one too many glasses of wine start dancing towards you, and you know it’s a disaster waiting to happen. You try to quickly get away, but it’s too late! You look down at your dress and there is that splotch of red that’s not supposed to be there. Here’s how to get rid of that bothersome wine stain:

Step 1: Dab at the wine stain with a damp, white cotton cloth to absorb any excess wine. Tip: rubbing will only set the stain further *YIKES*

Step 2: Pull garment tightly across a bowl, with the stain in the center of the bowl, and secure with a rubber band.

Step 3: Cover the stain with a generous amount of salt and let sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the salt to absorb the liquid.

Step 4: CAREFULLY pour boiling water over the stain from a height of at least eight inches to give the water enough force to flush out the stain.

Step 5: Use the hottest water setting to wash garments. If stain isn’t fully removed, repeat the previous steps before tossing fabric in the dryer.’
