Keeping Your Active Wear Fresh

Keeping your active wear as fresh as was the day you bought it is a constant struggle for many. We’ve got some tips and tricks to keep your active wear from becoming worn down and promote them smelling fresh!

  1. After your exercise, don’t throw your sweaty articles of clothing directly into your hamper! Hang them up to dry first. This prevents giving your other clothing in your hamper odor and allow the sweat to completely dry rather than lasting until your next laundry day!
  2. Since the sweat is mostly contained on the inside of your workout clothing, turn them inside out before you wash them! This is the dirtiest part of the clothing.
  3. There are specialty laundry products made for fitness clothing! These will usually be labelled “Odor Defense.”
  4. Using cold water on your bright and color workout attire will prevent the color from fading too quickly.
  5. Skipping the dryer will benefit the elasticity and color of your clothing because you are avoiding the heat. Also, do not hang your colorful clothing in direct sunlight!
  6. Online, you can purchase detergent made specifically for active wear usually found when searching “Sports Detergent.” washing your clothing in this should have an instant-fresh effect.

Other ways to keep your active wear fresh is by removing those awful sweat stains. Permanent press is meant eliminate wrinkles in clothes by using an appropriate combination of hot and cold water, and agitation and spin speeds. This includes:

  • Meat Tenderizer – Make the sweat stain damp and sprinkle some meat tenderizer on it and then wash the clothing as usual!
  • Aspirin – Crush two or three aspirin and mix the powder in warm water. Soak the stain in the mixture for about two to three hours before washing as usual!
  • Dish Soap – You mix some dish soap with some hydrogen peroxide, scrub the stain, let it sit for an hour, then wash as usual!
  • Salt – Dissolve 4 tablespoons salt in 1 quart (1 liter) hot water. Just sponge the garment with the solution until the stain disappears
  • Lemons – Scrub the stain with a mixture of equal parts lemon juice and water then wash as usual!
  • Vinegar – Just pour a bit of vinegar directly onto the stain, and rub it into the fabric before placing the item in the wash.
  • Ammonia – You can even remove sweat stains by dabbing the area with a half-strength solution of ammonia and water before laundering.
